For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11 (English Standard Version)
When many of us were growing up, Christmas was all about gifts and not Jesus’ birthday.
Jesus’ birthday means more to us today – God’s gift to us!
Let’s answer a few questions about God’s gift to us for our understanding.
Question 1: According to scripture what is the purpose of God’s gift?
To save us from our sin!
Matthew 1:21 “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins”.
Question 2 : What do we do for God to give us His gift?
Nothing! – It’s out of His love!
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord
Question 3: How do some people describe God’s gift?
It’s indescribable! – Inexpressible – It’s from the grace of God!
2 Cor. 9:15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
Question 4: What does it mean to receive God’s gift?
We have been save through faith!
Eph. 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
Question 5: What did Jesus say about Himself being the gift of God?
If you knew the gift of God, He would have given you living water.
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.
We’re now compelled to live for Christ!
“For Christ’s love compels us…that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15).
